Non-infectious diseases, also called lifestyle diseases or welfare diseases, are a major problem both in Stockholm and in the rest of the country. These are diseases that are not transmitted between humans and are not an infection, and include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and COPD.

The causes of this type of disease are about habits and how we choose to live our lives. Smoking, lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet and a harmful alcohol intake are among the major risk factors that can lead to high blood pressure, obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

In fact, 80 percent of non-communicable diseases such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes could be prevented by lifestyle changes according to WHO.

There are a number of tools for achieving this, both guidelines within the public health area (at national, county council etc), information and advice via the internet, web forms and apps. There are also a number of tools to keep track of and map their lifestyle, such as the amount of exercise, what and when to eat, how to sleep and much more. However, these different tools have not succeeded in reversing the trend.

The challenge facing Stockholm County Council now is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to make healthy choices of life for the simplest choice.

Based on this, SLL has developed a challenge we want the Stockholmers' help on: How can we engage people in reflecting on their lifestyle-related health and sharing this information with the health care system?
